Easy German Stories for Beginners (A1–B1)

Reading short German stories for beginners is one of the most enjoyable ways to learn new words in context. Our stories are written especially for learners and are set in situations you will really experience in Germany: your first day at university, shopping, registering your address, finding a part-time job and getting through the first winter.

Each story has a level (A1, A2 or B1). Tap an underlined word to see its meaning in English and বাংলা, listen to the whole story, and answer the questions at the end to check your understanding.

How to Read German Stories Effectively

  1. Read once without stopping. Try to understand the main idea – you do not need every word.
  2. Read again and tap new words. Write down five words you want to remember.
  3. Listen while you read. This connects spelling and pronunciation.
  4. Answer the questions and retell the story in two or three German sentences.
  5. Come back after a few days and read the story again – you will understand more.

Which Level Should I Choose?

  • A1: short sentences in the present tense about everyday topics.
  • A2: longer texts with the Perfekt, modal verbs and practical topics such as the Anmeldung or a job.
  • B1: past tense (Präteritum), subordinate clauses and more descriptive language.
